Derek's 7th Birthday Party

My son was turning 7 years old and I decided I was going to throw him a Ghostbuster themed surprise birthday party. He saw the movie about 4 months prior and fell in love with it, he also loved the cartoons that I grew up on. I decided that we would throw the party at the movie theater and although the Ghostbuster movie was not the premier I could still create a whimsical party beforehand that would make my boy smile!

I started by searching for an invitation and was able to find the perfect one that fit both the Ghostbuster theme and the location of the party. Here is the finished product created by www.reelpartyinvitations.com. I was able to send them the party details and they did the rest. They were able to send me an electronic file and I was able to print and deliver the invites all in the same day.

Next was finding someone that could recreate a cake I saw on Pinterest. I used a local and affordable business called Sandra's Cakes. I showed her the picture and she was able to recreate it to a tee. Here is there website if anyone is interested www.sandrascakes.blogspot.com, and below is a picture of the finished product. Inside we had her do chocolate and vanilla cake but the vanilla was colored lime green like ectoplasm.

I searched for the right décor here are a few items I was able to pick up online. The plates and napkins I purchases from www.hardtofindpartysupplies.com, shipping was fast and products were affordable. The banner, like the invitations, were purchased online and sent as an electronic file. I printed out each square onto cardstock then strung green ribbon through it. This was purchased on Etsy through maryspartydesigns.

I knew I wanted place mats and I had seen an idea online using a ghost head so I went into the image center on yahoo.com and found the image I needed. I printed out and cut out the head on textured cardstock and attached it to another piece of square textured cardstock. Where the head met the square I placed a piece of shiny blue ribbon. Take a look at the finished product.

Let's talk goody bags! I found some lime green paper gift bags and again looked to yahoo.com for an image to attach to the front of the bags.

Now to find items to fill up those goody bags. I found great items online that I thought would be perfect including a Ghostbuster tin filled with watermelon slimmer sour candy bought from amazon.com, and Ghostbuster trading cards bought on Etsy from Wonderland Toys. In addition I added a can of silly string that had a sticker of the Ghostbusters and the wording "don't cross the stream", a glow stick, and a large box of candy in each bag.

It's slime time! I was able to get a real easy recipe for glow in the dark slime through www.domesticcharmblogspot.com and it was a breeze to make. I added a slimmer ectoplasm label to the jar to give it extra character, the image I got from www.vidaisabella.blogspot.com. This was placed at each child's seat alongside a crazy straw (of course not to be used together).

For my sons gift we decided to keep it simple and bought the Hot Wheels Ecto-1 car from www.amazon.com through GiftsRus.

Here is the complete set up of the table.

And lastly the Thank You cards were made with textured and regular cardstock and an image I got from yahoo.com. A perfect ending to a great time!

This party prompted my son's Halloween costume complete with a homemade proton pack. Blog to follow!
